Monarch Community Cafe introduced itself to Rogers Park neighbors by handing out 5,000 free cups of coffee during its first days in business last week. The cafe, located at 7010 N. Clark St., aims to provide an inviting third space for the community.
Community Focus
The cafe is the work of husband and wife John and Lynn Marshall, who have lived in Rogers Park with their children since 2019. Veterans of the hospitality industry, the couple sought to bring an open and spacious cafe to the neighborhood following the loss of such spaces before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Monarch offers ample seating and meeting space, a kids play section, a board game shelf, a full kitchen and drink program, and rare evening hours for a cafe space. The menu includes coffee and tea drinks, pastries from local bakeries, and lunch items like salads and sandwiches. The cafe specializes in decaffeinated coffee drinks to accommodate its evening crowds.
