Iowa Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley are backing a new Farm Bill draft that they believe will deliver significant benefits to farmers and rural communities in Iowa.
Farm Bill Draft Details
The proposal would strengthen the farm safety net, expand local meat processing, boost biofuels and new crop markets, improve animal disease prevention, and increase oversight of foreign-owned farmland. Senator Ernst stated that this is long overdue for Iowa’s hardworking farmers and producers.
Senator Grassley also emphasized the importance of expanding access to clean, American-grown fuel, such as E15, which reduces reliance on international sources of energy. He noted that E15 is not a mandate but an additional choice for drivers at the pump.
The Trump administration plans to ask Congress to make year-round E15 permanent, according to CBS News. Supporters of the ethanol blend say it is often cheaper than regular gasoline and could boost rural economies.
