An inmate at the Caddo Correctional Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, was found unresponsive on Tuesday and later pronounced dead, according to Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.
The inmate had participated in scheduled recreation from 7:10 a.m. until 9 a.m., then returned to his cell. At 10:18 a.m., deputies opened the cell door for meal service and were informed by the inmate’s cellmate that he had attempted to wake the inmate for lunch but found him unresponsive.
The Shreveport Fire Department responded and transported the inmate to Willis-Knighton North, where medical personnel pronounced the inmate dead. There are no signs of foul play, but the official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office following its investigation.
