The Texarkana Animal League in Texas is recovering from a series of unexpected issues, including a broken air-conditioning system, a leaking refrigerator, and a plumbing problem that caused flooding. Despite these challenges, the nonprofit is thankful for the community’s generosity in helping with repairs and donations.
Call for Volunteers
The league’s biggest need now is for volunteers to help care for the animals. They currently have only 12 volunteers, down from 30 to 40 previously. Volunteers are needed for morning and night shifts to socialize with cats, clean their boxes or dog kennels, walk dogs, and let them out throughout the day.
According to Business and Community Relations Manager Sabra Crabtree, volunteering at the Texarkana Animal League can be a highly rewarding experience. She notes that seeing the positive impact on the animals, from helping them recover from difficult situations to witnessing their personalities change and accept people again, is truly fulfilling.
Those interested in volunteering can visit the Texarkana Animal League website and fill out an application. The league will reopen for walk-in adoptions on July 11 but is available by appointment with an approved application in the meantime.
