Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced that the Salamonie River and Frances Slocum state forests will join the state parks system on July 1. The expansion will add over 1,400 acres to the state parks, providing more opportunities for Hoosiers and visitors to experience the natural beauty of the state.
Expanded Recreation Opportunities
The Salamonie River State Forest will be managed as part of Salamonie Lake, while the Frances Slocum State Forest will be taken care of through Mississinewa Lake. Both properties will maintain staffing and continue to offer activities like camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, and horseback riding.
