As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, Indianapolis is joining in on the festivities with a range of events and activities. The city has been a part of American history since it became the state capital in 1821.

Several events are scheduled to take place in Indianapolis, including the Star Spangled Sky Drone Show, Beech Grove Fireworks, Independence Day Social, Downtown Indy’s Fourth Fest, and the Lawrence Fourth Fest. These events will feature fireworks, parades, patriotic festivals, and other activities for all ages.
The Star Spangled Sky Drone Show will take place on June 27 at White River State Park, featuring drones lighting up the sky. The Beech Grove Fireworks will be held on July 3 at Sarah T. Bolton Park, with a kids zone, wrestling, and a hot dog stand. Downtown Indy’s Fourth Fest will start with a street festival at 6 p.m. on July 4, featuring ice cream stands, food trucks, and a kids zone. The Lawrence Fourth Fest will take place on July 4, with a parade, fish fry, classic car show, and kickball games. The Vonnegut Family Reunion and Fireworks Watch Party will be held on July 4, with a $40 ticket including dinner, drinks, and a view of the downtown fireworks.
Other Activities
In addition to these events, the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center will host the Freedom’s Framework exhibit, which explores how the Declaration of Independence set up the expectation that everyone is created equally and entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Indianapolis Speedrome will also host a race day on July 4, with a figure-8 track that has been open since the 1940s.
Indiana law allows fireworks year-round between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., but the rules are different in Marion County. Residents are allowed to set off fireworks on certain days and hours, with fines for those who do not follow the rules.
