El Paso, Texas – Downtown El Paso buzzed on Sunday as the annual 915 Tattoo Fiesta turned the streets into a living canvas of the city’s culture, creativity and community spirit. The event, held in honor of 915 Day, invited tattoo artists, local businesses and residents to celebrate the city’s distinctive identity.
Local participants honor the city with ink
Among the attendees was Ray Wise, a Fort Bliss veteran who is preparing to leave the area after six years of service. “This time around, I’m actually getting a 915 tattoo,” Wise said, noting that his time in El Paso has given him “so many great memories, food experiences, people.” He hopes the permanent reminder will let him carry a piece of the city with him when he departs.
Wise’s tattoo was completed during the fiesta’s flash crawl, a coordinated series of stations where artists move through the crowd offering designs and quick‑draw work. “She did fantastic,” Wise added, praising his tattoo artist.
Artists guide newcomers through personal design choices
Not everyone found the decision as straightforward. Kyleen Salais admitted she was “stuck between this one” while weighing different designs. Tattoo apprentice Raeley King explained that artists aim to connect the visual concept with the client’s inner story: “It’s not just, you know, it’s going to look amazing on you, but also what is the inner soul telling you?”
King emphasized the family‑like atmosphere the event strives to create: “Us as artists will definitely take care of you. We’ll definitely ensure that you feel like family. Like this is your home.”
More than tattoos – a showcase of local culture
The fiesta featured a tattoo flash crawl, live music, DJs, live art, food vendors, merchandise stalls and a Lowrider/Vicla Show & Shine. Organizers said the daylong celebration was designed to showcase El Paso’s unique culture while supporting local creatives, small businesses and community connections.
For Wise, the event offered a tangible way to keep a piece of El Paso with him: “Fortunately, with my fiancée, I get to take a piece of El Paso with me… and thanks to Karen, I get to have a piece on my body now.”
