Andrea Morgan, a Fort Worth native, capped off her studies at Texas Lutheran University in Houston with a nursing pinning ceremony that became a family celebration, attended by her mother, sister Arden, and her 91-year-old grandfather who travelled nine hours by bus from Chihuahua, Mexico to be there.
The campus that hosted her ceremony felt a little smaller and a lot warmer that day. Andrea finished her nursing degree and chose to include her mom on stage during the pinning, the symbolic handoff from student to practicing caregiver. Being surrounded by strong female mentors and classmates really inspired me to pursue a career where I could continue supporting women in meaningful ways. “ Andrea wrote in an email to NBC 5, crediting those early influences for guiding her toward women’s health.
That mix of personal history and professional calling is what gives her goals momentum. Andrea’s plan to find a role in labor and delivery or mother-baby care feels rooted in real experience and the kind of empathy that comes from watching family members grow and heal. The nursing pin is a credential, but the path she describes is an expression of values she’s held since childhood.
