9-Year-Old Hunter Rael Returns Home After Successful Heart Transplant

Hunter Rael, a brave 9-year-old from Belen, New Mexico, has returned home after a challenging medical journey involving two heart transplants. Hunter spent 193 days in Denver for his operation and recovery after battling Kawasaki disease. His return was celebrated with a police escort provided by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, highlighting the community’s support for this young fighter.

A Heartwarming Homecoming

Hunter’s homecoming was marked by a heartfelt tribute, including an escort by multiple motorcyclists and the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office. This celebration followed a special event where the Albuquerque Youth Orchestra performed a musical interpretation of Hunter’s journey. The event also included a concert where country superstar Jelly Roll dedicated a song to Hunter, further lifting the spirits of the young boy and his family.

Recovery and Future Aspirations

After the concert, Hunter and his mother, Anna Moya, returned to Aurora Children’s Hospital in Colorado to complete his recovery. Although routine procedures will continue, Hunter is now considered a healthy boy, free to enjoy activities he previously missed. His mother expressed gratitude for Hunter’s determination and hard work during his rehabilitation, emphasizing that it was Hunter’s effort that made his recovery possible.
