49ers owner Jed York arrested in East Palestine after contacting fake prostitution ad

East Palestine, Ohio – Police with the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force arrested San Francisco 49ers majority owner Jed York on Saturday after he responded to a fictitious online ad for a prostitute. The incident report obtained by ESPN shows York used the alias “Joe” and sent three messages to an undercover officer posing as a woman on a known prostitution website.

Sequence of contact

According to the report, York messaged the undercover officer twice on Saturday but received no reply. A third message was sent on Sunday, to which the officer responded and arranged a meeting for the following morning at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine.

Arrest and charges

York arrived at the designated location with the phone used for the communications and $160, the amount agreed upon for one hour of sexual services. Officers detained him on the spot and charged him with two misdemeanors: engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools. Prosecutors later reduced the prostitution charge to disorderly conduct as part of a plea agreement.

York entered a no‑contest plea, paid $1,150 in fines and received a one‑day jail sentence for each charge, with one day already served.

Reactions from the 49ers and the NFL

The 49ers issued a brief statement saying the matter is a legal issue that has been resolved and declined further comment. An NFL spokesperson indicated the league will review the incident under its personal conduct policy.

Impact on the local community

The arrest has drawn national attention to the small, rural town of East Palestine, located a short drive from York’s hometown of Youngstown. Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community, which advertises itself as a clean and affordable neighborhood of 42 lots, posted a Facebook message expressing shock at the incident and reaffirming support for law‑enforcement efforts.

A representative for Wheat Hill, who chose to remain unnamed, said the community was assured by East Palestine Police Chief Chris Weingart that the sting operation did not use actual lot numbers within the park. The incident report, however, notes that York was given a fictitious lot number for the meeting.

Background on York

Jed York has been the majority owner of the 49ers since 2024 and has served as the team’s chief executive officer since 2008. Under his leadership, the franchise has appeared in three Super Bowls and oversaw the construction of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which opened in 2014.

York’s attorney has not responded to multiple requests for comment from ESPN.
