Millions of Americans are hitting the road for the Fourth of July holiday, with Thursday expected to be the busiest day for driving. According to Triple A, more than three million Ohioans are traveling for the weekend, a nearly 10% increase from last year.
Despite gas prices reaching a four-year high, most people are still choosing to drive. The average price for a gallon of gas in Cincinnati is $3.61, about 70 cents higher than the same time last year. However, gas prices are about 40 cents lower than they were a month ago.
Ohio transportation officials advise travelers to avoid the worst traffic times, which are expected to be between 3-5 p.m. and from 7-11 p.m. Leaving early in the morning can help avoid congestion.
