15-Year-Old Arrested in Connection with Deadly Shooting at Desert Sky Mall

In a tragic incident that has shaken the Phoenix community, a 15-year-old male has been taken into custody in relation to a deadly shooting at Desert Sky Mall. The incident occurred on June 2 and resulted in the death of 17-year-old Kevin Zamora and the wounding of a 16-year-old, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Incident Details

Police responded to reports of gunfire at the mall, located near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road, around 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers secured the area as businesses either closed or went into lockdown. Kevin Zamora was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The 16-year-old victim is expected to survive.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in a verbal altercation with a group that included Zamora and the 16-year-old. During this confrontation, the suspect allegedly drew a firearm and opened fire, resulting in the tragic outcomes.

Arrest and Charges

Through a thorough review of surveillance footage, detectives identified the 15-year-old suspect and arrested him without incident. The police are recommending charges of second-degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault to the Maricopa County Juvenile Correctional Center.
