Wayne Dein, a 102-year-old World War II veteran, continues to honor those who serve by displaying flags outside his home on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day.
Service and Tradition
Dein served in World War II as a merchant marine, caring for Americans across the Pacific. He said his decision to enlist was simply the right thing to do. Even 80 years after his service ended, Dein continues to honor those in uniform.
Dein still makes time to put out his flags, though he now receives some help from his neighbor. His community also ensures Dein is recognized for his contributions and service, including a plaque at the local fire department where he belonged for 60 years.
