Philadelphia authorities confirmed that 10-year-old Jalayshia Allford, who vanished on Oct. 26 from her foster home on North Simpson Street, was found dead in a car parked at the Stonington Court Apartments in Lindenwold, Camden County, New Jersey. The discovery was made overnight, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
District Attorney prepares to announce charges
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has scheduled a 5:30 p.m. news conference to announce criminal charges against a suspect in what officials are calling a “brutal murder.” While details of the alleged crime have not yet been released, the DA’s office indicated that investigators have identified a person of interest and are moving forward with prosecution.
Family and community response
Jalayshia’s foster mother and the father of the foster household are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Jalayshia’s biological father, Nazir Allford, told Action News he is struggling to cope with the uncertainty surrounding his daughter’s whereabouts and emphasized that his sole concern is his child.
Other members of the Allford family expressed deep pain over the lack of answers. Aunt Nyfisha Allford said, “It’s really so much pain in not knowing,” while uncle Nafis Horne added, “He loved his daughter. His daughter loved him. We’re vouching for that as a family because we know that.” Court records show that Nazir Allford previously pleaded guilty to charges related to interference with child custody, and relatives said he has long sought to regain custody of his daughter after she entered the foster system.
Community mourning
Residents gathered Thursday night at the New Jersey apartment complex where Jalayshia’s body was found. Balloons and a stuffed animal were placed at the entrance as symbols of love and remembrance. Malcolm Jordan, a member of the local search party in West Philadelphia, said, “It’s heartbreaking that this is the end result. I just wish it was a different result, man, and we just gotta do what we can to prevent this stuff from happening.” A nearby resident echoed the sentiment, noting that the balloons represented the community’s outpouring of love for the child.
Call for information
Police continue to ask anyone with information to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215‑686‑8477 (TIPS) or submit an anonymous tip online. The investigation remains active as authorities work to bring closure to Jalayshia’s family and hold those responsible accountable.
