Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited a military command post close to the town of Lyman on Wednesday, using the stop to showcase recent progress in the country’s counteroffensive against Russian forces.
In a video posted to Telegram, Zelensky can be seen reviewing regional maps with commanders, conferring on tactical matters, and presenting decorations to servicemen on the eastern front. He described the operation, named “Vivaldi,” as a “serious operation, important in many ways for our defence overall and in Donbas in particular,” underscoring its strategic significance for the contested Donbas region.
Zelensky asserted that the Vivaldi effort has stopped Russian troops from breaking through the rear of defensive lines surrounding the key cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk—part of a network of “fortress cities” that Ukrainian forces are defending. According to the president, Ukrainian forces have reclaimed 176 square kilometres (approximately 29.3 square miles) of territory in the area since the operation began earlier this year.
Future military enhancements
The president also indicated that the Ukrainian military is evaluating the expansion of ground‑based robotic systems and plans to scale up drone capabilities, signaling a continued push toward modernizing its battlefield technology.
