The newly restructured Yukon City Council is set to meet for the first time since the resignation of former Vice Mayor Jeff Wooten. The council will publicly discuss the city’s land sale agreements with the developer behind the $1 billion data center project, giving residents their first chance to hear where the new council stands.
Concerns Over the Project
Residents have voiced concerns over water usage, infrastructure, and transparency. For many residents, this could reveal whether the city’s leadership is willing to reconsider one of the most controversial projects in the city’s history.
The council previously approved an agreement to sell the city-owned land to BLE Landholdings, the company behind the data center campus west of Yukon. Yukon resident Dillon Leon said, ‘This is what my wife and I consider home. We want to be here not only to represent the town, but we want to protect it.’ Leon hopes the council will come up with a viable solution to get out of the contract.
