Yellowstone National Park is preparing for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday. The park is reminding visitors to plan ahead and expect crowds at popular areas and lines at entrance stations, construction areas, and roadside wildlife sightings.
Fire Danger and Safety
Fire danger has risen recently, and wildfires have broken out around Jackson. The park is asking visitors to leave fireworks at home, as even a spark can ignite a wildfire. The current fire danger in Yellowstone is moderate but could change at any time.
Visitors are also reminded to give wildlife room and maintain a minimum of 100 yards from bears, wolves, and cougars, and 25 yards from all other wildlife. It’s essential to stay on boardwalks when at sight-seeing spots, as guests have been severely injured or killed by falling through thin thermal ground.
Plan Ahead
Campgrounds require reservations and are often filled far in advance, so it’s crucial to plan ahead by checking online. The park also reminds guests to check the forecast, bring water, and pack layers to be prepared for unpredictable weather.
Park entry will be free this year from July 3 to 5 for U.S. residents.
