Yellowstone National Park announced that, due to persistent warm water conditions, it will close some rivers to fishing from 2 p.m. until sunrise the next day every day for an indefinite period.
Affected Waterways
Anglers will only be able to access these waterways between dawn and 2 p.m. until the park says otherwise. The park said in a post that the daily closure is due to warm water temperatures and low winter flows.
Water temperatures in select rivers and streams have exceeded 68 degrees Fahrenheit in recent days, and flows are low. Additionally, air temperatures with highs around 90 degrees Fahrenheit are forecasted in the coming days. These conditions are lethal to trout, and the closure will protect the park’s native and wild trout fisheries and will remain in effect until conditions improve.
The park couldn’t say when the closure will end, but that staff would continue to monitor water temperatures for changes. The closure may be lifted, or additional restrictions and closures may be put in place depending on condition assessments.
Streams and lakes not listed above will remain open, including Yellowstone Lake. The lake will still be closed after sunset and before sunrise.
