Yale University has launched a three-year, $4.8 million fund to provide grants to local nonprofits in New Haven. The Yale and New Haven Community Fund will offer grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 for specific projects, as well as smaller awards of up to $5,000.

The fund is part of a six-year deal between Yale and New Haven, in which Yale will contribute $230 million to the city. The university will also consider “pedestrianizing” a block near its medical school and building new housing on underused land.
According to Yale President Maurie McInnis, the fund reaffirms the university’s commitment to the mutual prosperity of the city and the university. The fund’s focus areas include arts and culture, neighborhood vitality, economic opportunity, youth development, and health and wellness.
A five-person committee will review grant applications, which are due on August 31 for the larger project-based grants. Groups will hear a decision by November 30 and receive funding in January 2027.
