Wyoming’s fishing community is considering a new program called Flybrary, which would allow anglers to borrow and lend fishing flies. The program, already successful in other states like Montana, aims to promote a sense of community among fly fishermen.
How it Works
The process is simple: take a fly, leave a fly. This concept is similar to other community-driven initiatives in Wyoming, such as little free libraries and neighborhood food pantries.
Montana artist Brandi Massey is behind the Flybrary program. She was inspired to create the program after forgetting her fly box at home before a fishing trip. Massey had her dad build a box, obtained the necessary permits, and installed her first Flybrary on the Blackfoot River.
Massey’s goal is to create a sense of connection among fly fishermen and provide a convenient way for them to access the flies they need. With Wyoming’s popular fisheries, the Flybrary program could help make the state an even more attractive destination for anglers.
