Kirby, Wyoming, is home to Wyoming Whiskey, the state’s first legal distillery. Founded in 2006 by Brad and Kate Mead, along with partner David DeFazio, the distillery began production in 2009. Wyoming Whiskey uses the finest ingredients, including corn, winter wheat, winter rye, barley, and water sourced from the Bighorn Basin, to create its unique whiskey.
Local Roots
The company has grown significantly since its inception, with Edrington, a Scotland-based spirits group, investing in Wyoming Whiskey in 2018. However, the distillery has now returned to local ownership under the leadership of co-Founder David DeFazio and WW Partners, LLC.
Wyoming Whiskey has received critical acclaim for its bourbons, including the Buffalo Bill Cody release, which was named the best Non-Kentucky Small Batch Bourbon by the World Whiskies Awards in 2026. The company has also released a new 6-year bourbon, State of the Union, to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and Wyoming’s role in the national story.
As part of its forward strategy, Wyoming Whiskey will re-commit to its roots and return to the culture and constitution that made it a staple of the Rocky Mountain whiskey category. The company will also partner with Nancy Fraley, a renowned Master Blender and spirits alchemist, to create new and exciting whiskey blends.
