Former Wyoming Cowboys are making their mark in the NFL, and Week 4 offered a snapshot of how these alumni are faring on the professional stage. The most notable story comes from tight end Treyton Welch, a Laramie native who entered the league as an undrafted free agent.
Welch’s First NFL Snaps
After signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2024, Welch landed on the New Orleans Saints roster. He spent time on the practice squad and waiver wire before earning a spot on the active list. In the Saints’ 45-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at the Mercedes Superdome, Welch recorded 19 total snaps, including a dozen on special teams and one target in the passing game. For the season he has logged 47 snaps – 22 on offense and 25 on special teams – as the Saints sit 1-3.
Quarterback Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills)
Wyoming’s most prominent NFL name, quarterback Josh Allen, continued to lead the Buffalo Bills. In a close 29-26 defeat to the New England Patriots, Allen completed 23 of 33 passes for 253 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also added five rushes for four yards and a rushing touchdown. Allen’s season totals now stand at 82 completions on 122 attempts for 1,037 yards, six passing touchdowns and three interceptions, with 33 carries for 118 yards and seven rushing scores.
Defensive Back Andrew Wingard (Arizona Cardinals)
Arizona Cardinals safety Andrew Wingard saw limited action in the Cardinals’ 36-24 loss at the New York Giants. He recorded a single tackle. To date this season, Wingard has amassed 23 tackles, three tackles for loss, one pass defended, one interception and one forced fumble.
Defensive End Carl Granderson (New Orleans Saints)
Saints defensive end Carl Granderson was listed as inactive for the loss to Atlanta. He remains a contributor on the defensive line, having recorded 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one quarterback hit and a blocked field goal this season.
Other Wyoming Alumni
Several other former Cowboys are on NFL rosters, though many are on practice squads or injured reserve. Defensive end Sabastian Harsh of the Houston Texans posted seven tackles and half a sack in his rookie season, despite being inactive for the 34-30 loss to Dallas. Offensive guard Emmanuel Pregnon of the Jacksonville Jaguars played all 61 offensive snaps in a 22-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 57.4 while allowing two quarterback hits.
Frank Crum (Denver Broncos) remains on injured reserve, and linemen Caden Barnett (Chicago Bears), Isaiah Neyor (Green Bay Packers) and Evan Svoboda (Los Angeles Chargers) are currently on practice squads. Kansas City Chiefs rookie John Michael Gyllenborg suffered a season‑ending injury in fall camp, and Houston’s Solomon Byrd is also on injured reserve.
Looking Ahead
Welch’s hometown Vikings will visit New Orleans in Week 5, offering a chance for the former Cowboy to showcase his talents against familiar faces. Meanwhile, the Bills, Cardinals, Saints and other teams continue to battle for playoff positioning as the NFL season progresses.
