Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon recently shared what the state contributed to the America250 Time Capsule, which was sealed in Philadelphia to celebrate the nation’s semiquincentennial. The capsule, scheduled to be opened 250 years from now in 2276, features contributions from all 50 states, five U.S. territories, and Washington, D.C.
Wyoming’s Contribution
Wyoming donated a letter from Governor Mark Gordon to the official America250 Time Capsule. The letter discusses the challenges Wyoming is facing today and the nation, as well as an opportunity to reflect on what the Constitution means. Governor Gordon’s wife, Jennie Gordon, suggested including a penny in the time capsule, as the USA no longer mints them.
The full text of Governor Gordon’s letter has not been published, as it was directly archived within the 900-pound cylinder to remain unopened for 250 years. However, Governor Gordon shared his thoughts on what he wrote during a visit to a local studio.
The America250 Time Capsule features a wide range of contributions, including paper contributions, letters, and artifacts such as a piece of Civil War eagle feather from Wisconsin and a whale bone from New Hampshire.
