A comprehensive evaluation of the Wylie Fire-Rescue Department found the city is providing a strong emergency response system but will need additional staffing, improved response times and eventually a fifth fire station as the community continues to grow.

The assessment, presented to the Wylie City Council during a June 23 work session, was conducted by the Center for Public Safety Management as part of a Standards of Cover analysis. The study examined fire, emergency medical services and emergency communications operations to measure performance, evaluate deployment strategies and establish benchmarks for future planning.
According to the report, Wylie Fire-Rescue serves approximately 37.6 square miles for fire protection and nearly 52 square miles for EMS coverage from four stations while maintaining a daily minimum staffing level of 25 personnel.
