The 2025-26 winter sports season was a success for the Wylie East Raiders, with notable performances in basketball, powerlifting, and wrestling. The boys basketball team, led by coach Kortney Smith, finished with a 16-13 record and made the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
Boys Basketball
Senior forward Mikiyas Abiy was one of the team’s most improved players, earning a spot on the All-9-6A second team. Abiy scored 20 points in the team’s loss to Tyler Legacy in the bi-district playoffs. Senior guard Praise Olufemi and junior guard Preston Samuels were honored on the first team.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Raiders made the playoffs for the 11th consecutive season, finishing with 20 wins before falling to North Forney in the bi-district playoffs. The team’s defense was a key factor in their success, with senior guard Sidney Sanders earning the 9-6A Defensive Player of the Year award.
Powerlifting
Wylie East had two state placers in powerlifting, with Alexandria Davis winning the state championship in the 198-pound division and Madisyn King capturing fifth place at 181 pounds.
Wrestling
Senior Jacob West finished his high school career as a regional qualifier, earning third place at 157 pounds in the district tournament.
