A body found floating in the Atlantic Ocean off Boca Raton has been identified as a South Florida woman who’d been convicted of murdering her mother more than a decade ago.

The body of 63-year-old Patricia Brennan had been discovered about two miles east of 2500 North Ocean Boulevard on Tuesday morning, Boca Raton Police said. A boater had spotted the body and alerted authorities, and a dive team recovered the body.
Brennan had been arrested on murder and kidnapping charges in May of 2014 in the stabbing death of her 76-year-old mother in Hollywood. Her mother had been found with multiple stab wounds in her abdomen from a butcher’s knife, multiple bruises, and had been beaten and struck on the back of a head with a bottle, authorities said.
The mother told officers she’d been stabbed by her daughter the night before and had been held against her will but was able to escape to the neighbor after her daughter fell asleep. She died about 10 days after the stabbing.
Brennan was later sentenced to 10 years in prison and was released in November 2022, records showed. Boca Raton Police haven’t said what may have led to Brennan’s death or how she ended up in the ocean but said an investigation was ongoing.
