At about 7:15 p.m., Bus 25 came to an abrupt stop near the intersection of Bergen Street and Springfield Avenue. According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the sudden motion caused the woman to unintentionally bump into a child who was traveling with the suspect.
The woman apologized, but the suspect grew angry, shouted at her, and then struck her in the face and head. A brief struggle ensued as the woman tried to defend herself. During the altercation the suspect allegedly deployed a pepper‑spray canister directly into her eyes before fleeing the scene.
