A woman was struck by a stray bullet during a Fourth of July festival in Oklahoma. The incident occurred at Yukon’s Freedom Fest, where the woman was watching fireworks with her family on July 5.
Investigation Underway
Witnesses described the scene as ‘very, very scary’ when people realized the woman had been hit by a bullet. The woman is now out of the hospital and is doing okay. Police believe the stray bullet came from nearly 2 miles away.
According to Tarrah Meade, a regular at Freedom Fest, ‘it was a wild scene’ when people realized the woman had been hit. Meade said a rush of officers came her way during the fireworks and drone show.
Police said the investigation led them to believe the shooter wasn’t in the park at all. The shots-fired call, which police believe to be connected to the stray bullet, originated 1.6 miles away.
Cylie Woods said she is still shaken up by the incident. ‘I just don’t know why people have to feel the need to want to do that,’ Woods said.
Meade and Woods said even though this happened, they are still planning on returning to Freedom Fest next year. ‘We’ll be back. I mean, one little incident is not going to stop us from returning, but we just want everyone to be safe,’ Meade said.
