The WNBA has suspended Alyssa Thomas for one game for recklessly making contact with her fist to the throat area of Caitlin Clark. The play occurred in the second quarter of the Phoenix Mercury’s 111-109 win over the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night.
Coach Criticizes Officiating
Fever head coach Stephanie White criticized the officials for not making the call initially, saying it was “crazy” and “dangerous.” White also expressed concerns about the consistency of officiating, particularly with regards to Clark.
Clark left the game early in the third quarter with an aggravated back, but it is unclear if the play contributed to her injury. The Fever will next host the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday, while the Mercury will face the Toronto Tempo without Thomas on Saturday.
