Fever coach Stephanie White said the foul was ‘hard’ but didn’t think it was intentional. Sky coach Tyler Marsh said he hadn’t seen a replay of the play but thought Carrington was making a play on the ball. Cunningham said she popped up immediately after the foul and pushed Carrington, who was held back by a teammate.

In a separate incident, Fever star Caitlin Clark was assessed a technical foul after making contact with a referee. The technical was Clark’s eighth of the season, triggering a one-game suspension. However, the WNBA later rescinded the foul.
