The cross country season is set to start for Wisconsin area teams. High school kids have been spotted running on sidewalks, getting their off-season training in.
Looking Back to 2025
The WIAA 2025 boys state meet was held at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. In Division 1, the top 5 teams were Stevens Point, Homestead, Marquette University, De Pere, and DeForest. Grady Lenn from De Pere was the individual champion with a time of 15:03.2.
In Division 2, the top 5 teams were Shorewood, Kohler, Osceola, Notre Dame, and Fort Atkinson. Carter Kucko from Rice Lake was the individual champion with a time of 15:45.6.
In Division 3, the top 5 teams were St. Ambrose Academy, Prenctice/Rib Lake, Phillips, Marahon, and Cadott. Jonathan Simon from St. Ambrose Academy was the individual champion with a time of 16:06.9.
Looking Ahead to 2026
For the upcoming season, the top 5 finishing teams have some interesting numbers on returning runners. In Division 1, Stevens Point returns 4 of their top 7 runners, while Homestead returns 1 of their top 7. Marquette University returns 3 of their top 7, De Pere returns 4 of their top 7, and DeForest returns 4 of their top 7.
Among individual finishers, Ryan Keller of Hudson, Ethan Mattek of Wauwatosa East, and Logan Zeise of Milwaukee King are the top 10 finishers who return.
In Division 2, Shorewood returns 3 of their top 7 runners, Kohler returns 5 of their top 7, Osceola returns 4 of their top 7, Notre Dame returns 5 of their top 7, and Fort Atkinson returns 6 of their top 7.
Top ten finishers in Division 2 who return include Jack Schauer of St. Croix Central, Garrett Picerking of Campbellsport, Logan Boehnlein of Seymour, and Austin Jarmuz of University School of Milwaukee.
In Division 3, St. Ambrose Academy returns all 7 of their runners, Prenctice/Rib Lake returns 4 of their top 7, Phillips returns 3 of their top 7, Marathon returns 5 of their top 7, and Cadott returns 6 of their top 7.
Top ten finishers in Division 3 who return include champion Jonathan Simon of St. Ambrose Academy, Nolan Waltz of Three Lakes-Phelps, Michale Dolan of Assumption, Beau Steinke of Cadott, and Elliott Onesti of Roncalli.
