Winter Springs, Fla. – The Florida Coaches Coalition brought concerns about coach safety before the Seminole County School Board on Tuesday, citing an alleged assault on former football head coach Tim Dycus.
Alleged locker‑room incident
According to a Winter Springs police report, officers responded around 10:15 p.m. on Sept. 14 after a battery call following a junior‑ varsity football game. Assistant coach Walker Dycus said he heard a knock on the locker‑room back door, opened it thinking a player was there, and was confronted by an irate parent who pushed him and began throwing punches without making contact.
The parent then walked past Walker, approached Tim Dycus, pushed him and head‑butted him. Several players tried to intervene before the parent left the room. Both Tim and Walker Dycus declined medical attention and later chose not to press charges.
School board response
Dr. Andrew Ramjit, executive director of the Florida Coaches Coalition, told the board, “We want coaches here in Seminole County to feel safe.” He noted that the parent was issued a trespass notice delivered to his home after the incident.
Assistant superintendent Dr. Connie Collins confirmed that the district conducted a “thorough investigation” beginning the next morning and that “appropriate action” was taken, emphasizing that the coaches’ resignations were voluntary.
Additional concerns
Ramjit also raised the issue of a woman who entered the locker room after the altercation. Collins clarified that the woman was an assistant coach for the football team, a school board employee, and a parent.
Ramjit questioned why the assistant coach’s son, Walker, was suspended after stepping in to protect his father, and why both coaches felt compelled to resign.
Outcome
The district’s statement reiterated that law enforcement was contacted immediately, the parent received a trespass notice, and the coaches voluntarily resigned. The incident has sparked a broader discussion among local educators and parents about locker‑room security and the protection of school staff.
