Winter Haven Woman Arrested After Overdue Rental SUV Found by Deputies

Polk County, Fla. – On Monday, August 24, 2026, deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office made a swift arrest in Winter Haven after locating a white Hyundai SUV that had been reported stolen. The vehicle, originally leased by 45‑year‑old Alexandra Fowler of Marathon, was due back to Enterprise Rental Company on July 20, but Fowler never returned it.

Investigation and GPS Tracking

Fort Myers Police Department opened a stolen‑vehicle investigation after Enterprise Rental reported the SUV missing following multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact Fowler. Using the vehicle’s onboard GPS system, investigators pinpointed the SUV’s location to a residence on Webb Road in Winter Haven. When deputies arrived, they found the SUV parked alongside several individuals, including Fowler herself.

Arrest and Charges

Deputies took Fowler into custody without incident and transported her to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center. She was booked on a charge of third‑degree grand theft of a motor vehicle, a felony under Florida law. The SUV was recovered at the scene and is expected to be returned to the rental company.

Rental Agreement Details

According to the lease, Fowler signed the rental agreement on June 7, 2026, with a scheduled return date of July 20. The agreement required the renter to return the vehicle in the same condition and on time, and to maintain contact with the rental company for any issues. After Fowler failed to meet these obligations, Enterprise Rental filed a police report, prompting the joint investigation by Fort Myers police and Polk County deputies.

Community Impact

This case underscores the importance of cooperation between local law‑enforcement agencies and private businesses in protecting community safety and property. By swiftly locating the stolen vehicle through modern GPS technology, deputies prevented further loss and demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated investigative efforts.

Legal Process Ahead

Fowler will appear before a Polk County judge for her initial hearing, where she may enter a plea and potentially face additional penalties, including fines, restitution to the rental company, and possible incarceration, depending on the court’s determination.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to report any suspicious activity and reminds renters of their contractual obligations to avoid similar legal consequences.
