Wings soar past Tempo 108-95 behind dominant Bueckers-Shepard performance

The Dallas Wings handed the Toronto Tempo a 108-95 defeat on Friday night at Bell Centre in Montreal, delivering a sharp, efficient road performance powered by elite scoring and a commanding presence on the glass.

Paige Bueckers led all scorers on the evening, pouring in 34 points to pace Dallas’s offense. She was matched point-for-point by Toronto’s Marina Mabrey, who also finished with 34 points in a valiant but ultimately insufficient effort for the home side. The twin scoring performances gave the game a marquee feel, but it was Dallas’s depth of contributions that made the difference.

While Bueckers carried the offensive load for the Wings, Arike Ogunbowale proved equally impactful as a facilitator, distributing 7 assists to keep Dallas’s attack fluid and varied. On the boards, Jessica Shepard was simply dominant — her 17 rebounds gave the Wings a decisive advantage in second-chance opportunities and helped neutralize Toronto’s interior presence throughout the night.

For the Tempo, Maria Conde did her best to generate offense for her teammates, finishing with 9 assists to lead Toronto in that category. Isabelle Harrison contributed 8 rebounds to anchor the Tempo’s frontcourt, but neither player could compensate for the structural advantages Dallas held across the floor.

Those structural advantages showed up clearly in the team statistics. Dallas shot 53 percent from the field, connecting on 39 of 74 attempts, and was equally lethal from beyond the arc, knocking down 11 of 25 three-point tries for a 44 percent clip. The Wings were also nearly automatic at the free-throw line, converting 19 of 21 attempts for a 90 percent mark — a level of efficiency that made any Toronto comeback bid an uphill climb.

Dallas’s ball movement was another key factor, as the Wings recorded 22 assists on the night while committing only 7 total turnovers. That ratio reflects a disciplined, purposeful offensive approach that consistently generated quality looks. The Wings also dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 11 offensive rebounds to extend possessions and compound Toronto’s defensive struggles.

The Tempo, playing in front of their home crowd at Bell Centre, showed fight — Mabrey’s 34-point night ensured the final score never ballooned into a blowout — but Dallas controlled the game’s critical stretches. The Wings’ ability to shoot efficiently from multiple areas of the floor, win the rebounding battle, and limit their own mistakes gave Toronto too many problems to solve simultaneously.

The 13-point margin tells the story of a Wings squad that came into Montreal prepared and executed at a high level. For the Tempo, the loss is a reminder of the defensive and rebounding improvements still needed to compete with the WNBA’s elite. Dallas, meanwhile, leaves Quebec with a convincing road victory and a performance that underscores their credentials as a serious contender.
