Wienermobile to Bring Hot‑Dog Fun to Johnson County This Weekend

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, a bright red hot‑dog‑shaped vehicle that has become a beloved roadside attraction, will be in Johnson County this weekend. The mobile showcase will appear at two family‑friendly events, giving residents a chance to snap photos, collect souvenirs and enjoy a bit of nostalgic fun.

Friday at the Old Settlers Festival in Olathe

From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, the Wienermobile will be parked at the Johnson County Old Settlers event in downtown Olathe. The festival runs all day Friday and Saturday, featuring a parade, carnival rides, live music from the Olathe Community Orchestra, Phil Vassar and The Phil Collins Experience, as well as classic‑car displays. Admission is free, and the Wienermobile will be a highlight for children and adults alike.

Sunday at Shawnee’s Wheels & Dreams Show

On Sunday, the vehicle will travel to Shawnee for the Wheels & Dreams Car, Truck & Bike Show at Shawnee Town 1929, where it will be on display from noon to 4 p.m. The show includes classic automobiles, motorcycles, trucks and local food vendors, offering another free, family‑oriented outing.

Meet the “Hotdoggers”

The Wienermobile is staffed by two recent college graduates who completed Oscar Mayer’s “Hot Dog High” training program. “Cookout Caroline” McCallar, originally from Georgia, and “Nacho Dog” Norah Martin, a Pennsylvania native, serve as brand ambassadors—affectionately called “Hotdoggers.” Both describe the job as a chance to travel, meet new people and spread joy.

“You get to really go to all these super‑cool places that we might not have heard of before,” McCallar said. She added that Midwest hospitality lives up to its reputation, noting the friendly atmosphere she has encountered throughout the region.

Free Giveaways and Photo Ops

Visitors can receive a wiener whistle, stickers, postcards and other novelty items. The ambassadors also pose for photos with a variety of fun props, making the Wienermobile a perfect backdrop for social‑media posts.

“The whole point of the Wienermobile is really to spark joy,” McCallar explained. “It’s hard not to smile when you see a hot dog on wheels.”

Why the Tour Matters

The summer‑long tour, which travels through the Midwest and the South, aims to lift spirits and promote community connection. By stopping in Johnson County for the second time, the Wienermobile reinforces the county’s reputation for family‑friendly events and vibrant local culture.

Both McCallar and Martin emphasized how the role allows them to share their love of travel and hot‑dog culture with the public. “I love the part of the job where we get to talk to people and answer their questions,” Martin said. “I’m just happy to be meeting new people all the time.”

Plan Your Visit

All events are open to the public at no cost. Attendees should check the event organizers’ websites for any updates on parking or weather‑related changes. Bring a camera, a smile, and a willingness to enjoy a classic piece of Americana.
