Why the Republican Party’s Grassroots Engine Needs a Reset After the 2026 Midterms

By OBBM Network Editorial Staff

Dan Schultz

What if the most powerful weapon in the Republican playbook isn’t a television ad or a Senate race, but a simple seat at the local party meeting?

Midterm Setbacks Spark a Call to Action

On November 4, 2026, Dan Schultz opened his broadcast with a stark admission: the GOP had lost both the House and the Senate. While national headlines focused on the congressional defeats, Schultz turned his attention to the often‑overlooked battlefield of precinct committees. He described his own experience waiting over an hour at the University of Wisconsin‑Eau Claire student center to collect vote totals from Dominion machines, noting that the two wards he observed – 20 and 24 – voted overwhelmingly Democratic.

Schultz used that moment to illustrate a broader problem: without a strong network of precinct committeemen, the party cannot mobilize voters or influence candidate selections. “We lost everything,” he said, framing the election night loss as a catalyst for rebuilding from the ground up.

The Precinct Strategy Explained

Schultz’s “Precinct Strategy” is presented as a three‑step roadmap for conservatives to reclaim political influence. First, he urges listeners to become precinct committeemen by attending their local Republican Party committee meetings. He directs them to his website, precinctstrategy.com, where step‑by‑step directions, graphics, and basic civics lessons are available.

Second, Schultz emphasizes the power of these local positions. He notes that precinct committeemen elect the state party chair, who in turn selects the national committeeman and committeewoman who sit on the Republican National Committee. “Only precinct committeemen get to elect who elects the state chair, the national committeeman, and the national committeewoman,” he explained, underscoring the strategic importance of filling the roughly 200,000 vacant slots he says exist nationwide.

Finally, Schultz calls for a unified push to fill those vacancies, arguing that a fully staffed grassroots network would double the party’s strength and create a “100% strength, twice as strong” organization capable of winning primary elections and, ultimately, general elections.

Why the Strategy Has Stalled

Despite the clear logic, Schultz acknowledges that the Precinct Strategy has not yet taken off. He references a recent X post from a user named Jimmy Mobley, who complained that “the Precinct Strategy was not tried” and that “nothing has changed.” Schultz responded that many conservatives have attended meetings but then opted out of active involvement, calling such half‑measures “pathetic.”

He also points to historical attempts, noting that when he began recruiting in 2009 there were about 200,000 vacant precinct slots out of 400,000 total. Even with President Donald J. Trump’s endorsement of the strategy, the vacancy rate has remained stubbornly high. Schultz attributes this to a lack of urgency among rank‑and‑file Republicans and a failure to translate attendance at meetings into concrete action.

Practical Resources for Aspiring Committeemen

To lower the barrier to entry, Schultz has packaged his guidance into a concise booklet titled “Real Ballgame Politics.” Priced at $9.99, the book is available in Kindle and Audible formats through Amazon, though the paperback edition remains unavailable. He also offers a collection of graphics and links on his website that detail how to locate one’s local committee, understand basic American civics, and prepare for the first meeting.

Schultz’s approach is deliberately straightforward. He describes the process as “seventh‑grade stuff,” insisting that any conservative who can pass a basic civics test can become a precinct committeeman and start influencing elections from the bottom up.

Broader Implications for the Republican Party

If the Precinct Strategy succeeds, the Republican Party could see a dramatic shift in internal dynamics. A fully staffed network would not only improve get‑out‑the‑vote efforts but also empower conservatives to replace “Rhino” incumbents—Republicans perceived as insufficiently loyal to the party’s core principles—with candidates who align more closely with President Trump’s agenda.

Schultz frames this as a defensive measure: “We could take out the rhinos in the primaries, and then we could elect better people to run the party all the way up to the RNC.” By strengthening the party at the precinct level, conservatives would have a direct pipeline to influence state chairs, national committeemen, and ultimately the direction of the national party.

While the strategy is ambitious, its success hinges on a cultural shift within the Republican base. Schultz concludes with a call to prayer, citing 2 Chronicles 7:14, and urges listeners to combine faith, civic engagement, and disciplined organization to “save the republic.”

The conversation underscores a pivotal moment for the GOP: rebuilding from the grassroots may be the most viable path to reclaiming legislative majorities and advancing President Trump’s vision for America.
