Evacuees from the Wetmore area in Custer County, Colorado, are expected to return home on Monday morning. The Aspen Acres Fire, which prompted the evacuations, has been contained enough to allow residents to return to their homes.
Re-entry Plans
A segment of Highway 96, which had been closed during the fire, will reopen on Monday to provide access for residents of the town of Wetmore. The highway between Siloam Road and County Road 305 is scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m.
According to Erik Sillitoe, the county’s emergency management director, no homes were damaged in the town of Wetmore, and there are no power lines or downed buildings. The town will switch from a mandatory evacuation status to a pre-evacuation status.
The Greenwood area south of Wetmore remains under mandatory evacuation due to high fire danger. Authorities hope to allow residents to visit their homes in neighborhoods along Highway 165, north of Colorado City, later this week.
