Westbound Prater Way Closed Daily for Utility Work Starting Sept. 15

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) announced that westbound Prater Way in Reno will be closed each evening beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15. The closure will affect the stretch between Fourth Street and Pyramid Way and is expected to continue through Sunday, Sept. 20, though the schedule may shift as construction progresses.

Detour routes and lane availability

Drivers traveling west on Prater Way are advised to use Fourth Street and Greenbrae Drive as a detour while the westbound lane is shut down. An eastbound lane on Prater Way will remain open throughout the nightly closures, allowing traffic to flow in both directions during the day.

Purpose of the work

The nightly closures are intended to give crews safe access to utility infrastructure and to continue roadway reconstruction in the area. By limiting work to the evenings, the RTC aims to minimize disruption to commuters while completing essential upgrades.

Impact on commuters

Motorists should plan for additional travel time during the closure hours and follow posted signage. The RTC will restore two‑way traffic at 7 p.m. each night, so drivers can resume normal routes after that time.

Where to find more information

For the latest updates, maps, and detailed detour instructions, residents can visit the RTC Washoe website or contact the agency directly.

Community context

Prater Way is a key arterial road serving neighborhoods in north‑central Reno. Maintaining reliable utility service and a well‑kept roadway is essential for families, businesses, and local schools that rely on this corridor for daily travel. The RTC’s proactive approach reflects a commitment to keeping Reno’s infrastructure safe and functional for the community.

Looking ahead

While the current schedule runs through Sept. 20, the RTC will monitor progress and may adjust the timeline as needed. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the agency’s communications channels to avoid surprises and to support the smooth completion of the project.
