The city of Chicago is pressing Habibti, a West Loop restaurant, to address complaints about noise, public drinking, and late-night disturbances. Residents have described months of problems outside the restaurant, including fights, loud music, and people urinating on neighboring properties.

Community Meetings

Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. and the city’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection have organized community meetings to establish corrective measures for the business. Marianne Rieger, an attorney for the business department, warned the restaurant’s owner, Fadi Akileh, that if the issues are not resolved, the city may consider revoking its business license.

Akileh has disputed the characterization of his business, saying it has submitted extensive documentation showing its efforts to comply with the city’s demands. However, Rieger said several requests remain unfulfilled or inadequately documented, including the requirement to post signs, maintain formal 911 and daily cleaning logs, and provide photos of uniformed security guards.

The restaurant is also facing a licensing disciplinary case with the city, alleging it violated an earlier plan of operation by selling tobacco products without a license and failing to comply with police.
