Make-A-Wish Iowa granted a West Des Moines teen’s wish for a UTV, allowing him to enjoy more outdoor adventures with his siblings. Zander Smith received the UTV and had the chance to try it out in the Warners’ Stellian Appliances parking lot.
According to the nonprofit, Zander suffers from tumors. Organizers said moments like this provide children like Zander with strength and hope. “This is what’s going to give them the hope that they need to fight their critical illness and, the strength and really give them some time with their family and, help bring them a little bit of joy,” organizers said.
Make-A-Wish Iowa said Zander is one of 30 children whose wishes are being granted this month. The nonprofit has granted more than 5,000 wishes in Iowa over the past 40 years.
