Wendy’s launches 9‑Patty “T‑Rex” challenge at Edmond restaurant

Edmond, Oklahoma – A Wendy’s location in Edmond has brought back a long‑dormant menu stunt: the nine‑patty “T‑Rex” burger. The towering cheeseburger, priced at $29.99, contains roughly 3,000 calories and challenges customers to eat it within nine minutes. Participants who succeed receive a commemorative T‑shirt and a voucher for a free meal.

Local promotion and rollout

An employee at the Edmond restaurant told Fox News Digital that the promotion is slated to expand to other Wendy’s outlets across Oklahoma beginning September 10. While the challenge includes the massive burger, the accompanying fries and drink are optional, allowing participants to focus on the primary test.

Public reaction

Social‑media users have expressed mixed feelings. Some dismiss the offering as “gross” or “dumb,” while others warn that the prize may be “high cholesterol and clogged arteries.” A few commenters joked that the burger could cause a “heart attack.” Conversely, a number of locals claim they could “destroy” the stacked sandwich and view it as a fun novelty.

Health perspective

Lauren Manaker, a registered dietitian based in South Carolina, cautioned that such a novelty item is less about everyday nutrition and more about the experience. “One very large, highly processed meal can pack a lot of sodium, saturated fat and calories into a short sitting, which may leave some people feeling uncomfortable afterward, especially if they eat it quickly,” she said. Manaker recommended that anyone attempting the challenge share the burger, eat slowly, and balance the rest of the day with water, fruits, vegetables, and other wholesome foods.

History of the T‑Rex burger

The nine‑patty creation first appeared in a mid‑2000s issue of Sports Illustrated as a tongue‑in‑cheek concept, prompting some customers to request it at Wendy’s locations. A franchise in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, briefly offered the sandwich before corporate intervened and halted the promotion in 2013. Despite the shutdown, the burger survived as a secret‑menu hack, with diners ordering a Dave’s Triple and adding six extra patties to replicate the T‑Rex.

Corporate response

Fox News Digital reached out to Wendy’s corporate headquarters in Ohio for comment, but no response was received at the time of publication.

What this means for local diners

For Edmond residents, the challenge provides a novel, if calorie‑dense, dining experience that aligns with the city’s growing appetite for unique food events. While the promotion is clearly a marketing stunt, it also underscores Wendy’s willingness to experiment with limited‑time offers that generate buzz and draw foot traffic.
