Weekend Lane and Ramp Closures on I-70 in Downtown Indianapolis

Residents and commuters in Indianapolis should prepare for significant traffic changes this weekend as the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced lane and ramp closures on I-70 eastbound. These closures will impact the stretch between Belmont Avenue and Madison Avenue, starting at 9 pm on Friday, June 5, and continuing through 5 am on Monday, June 8.

Details of the Closures

During this period, I-70 eastbound will be reduced to a single lane. Additionally, the ramps from Harding Street, West Street/Missouri Street, and Madison Avenue to I-70 eastbound will be closed. This temporary change is to facilitate necessary roadwork and ensure the safety of both workers and drivers.

Once the initial phase of work is completed, traffic on I-70 eastbound will see a shift of three lanes to the inside. This adjustment will allow workers to begin concrete patching in the coming weeks, a crucial step in maintaining the road’s integrity and safety.

Safety and Schedule Considerations

INDOT has issued a reminder for drivers to exercise caution, reduce speed, and remain vigilant while navigating through work zones. The department emphasizes the importance of avoiding distractions to ensure the safety of all road users. It is important to note that all scheduled work is weather-dependent, and changes may occur based on weather conditions.
