Week six of the Wyoming high school cross country season brought five exciting meets to the Cowboy State as the regular season winds down and the state championships loom three weeks away. Families and fans gathered at local courses in Cody, Gillette, Rock Springs, Wheatland and Wright to cheer on their student‑athletes.
Thursday, Oct. 1 – Out‑of‑State Competition
Wyoming schools also traveled to the Bob Conley Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho. Evanston, Jackson and Mountain View sent teams. Presley Russell placed 12th in the girls’ Varsity B division, while Mountain View earned a third‑place finish in the boys’ Varsity B team standings. Colt Madsen was the race runner‑up.
Friday, Oct. 2 – Cody Foxes and Hounds
The Foxes and Hounds race at Olive Glenn Golf Course drew schools from across the region. Lyla Marney of Big Horn dominated the girls’ race, finishing 44 seconds ahead of the field. Kellen Winters of Burlington won the boys’ race by 37 seconds. Cody captured the girls’ team crown, and Buffalo took the top spot in the boys’ team standings.
Rock Springs ‘Tough Pumpkin’ Invite
Held at White Mountain Golf Course, the Tough Pumpkin Invite saw Aria Wheeler of Rock Springs win the girls’ race on her home course. Riverton’s Noah Blasi claimed the boys’ title. No team scores were posted for this meet.
Gillette Wayne Chaney Memorial
The Wayne Chaney Memorial at Cam‑Plex Park featured a strong showing from Laramie’s Dorothy Jensen, who won the girls’ race and led Laramie to the team title. Jayce Sanders, listed as representing North Carolina, took the boys’ win, while the boys’ team title went to Kelly Walsh by a two‑point margin.
Wheatland Cross Country Meet
At Lewis Park, freshman Lillyan James from Newcastle earned first place in the girls’ race, helping Douglas secure the girls’ team title. In the boys’ race, Bodey Kejr of Douglas finished first and guided the Bearcats to the boys’ team championship.
Out‑of‑State Events – Friday
Wyoming teams also competed at the Miles City Stampede XC Invite in Montana, where Sheridan placed first in the boys’ team standings and third among the girls. Eli Balkenbush won the boys’ race, and Jaelyn Ruybal finished fourth in the girls’ division.
At the Pat Amato Classic in Northglenn, Colorado, Adalyn Racines and Cal Bibbey of Cheyenne Central swept the individual titles, with Racines winning the girls’ race by 1 minute 41 seconds. The Indians placed second in the girls’ team standings and eighth in the boys.
The Scottsbluff Invite in Nebraska saw Cole Tregemba finish second in the boys’ race for Torrington.
Saturday, Oct. 3 – Brittany Rentas Memorial
The season‑ending Brittany Rentas Memorial at Hay Creek Golf Course in Wright featured Tess Daley of Sundance winning the girls’ race, while Wright’s Tobyn Teigen captured the boys’ title. Glenrock took first in the boys’ team standings; no girls’ team scores were recorded.
Out‑of‑State Events – Saturday
Wyoming Indian competed at the Lakota Nation Invitational in Rapid City, South Dakota, finishing second in both the boys’ and girls’ team standings. Dai’Onna Posey placed fourth in the girls’ race and Kaiden Moss earned third.
At the Mead Stampede in Longmont, Colorado, Cheyenne East’s Maggie Madsen won the girls’ race by 12 seconds.
The Wiggins Cross Country Invitational in Colorado saw Cheyenne South finish fourth in the team standings, led by Bryce Townsend, who placed fourth individually.
