The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees voted to develop a long-term agreement to extend a pilot program to provide students with free bus rides on RTC buses. At a meeting on August 11, trustees were told that 4,800 passes were distributed to students and 240,353 free bus rides were taken between June 2025 and June 2026.
Program Details
Participating students in the Youth Ride Free program can ride RTC buses to school, work, and events throughout the community. The program aims to support students’ mobility and accessibility.
At the same meeting, trustees welcomed 16 new principals to the district. Board members also approved the process for collecting feedback and revising the district’s Strategic Plan, which includes five strategic goals: Strong Start for Every Child, Student Voice and Advocacy, Safety and Belonging, Academic Growth and Achievement, and Empowering All Learners for Their Future.
