Washoe County RTC to hold public meeting on Moya Boulevard safety improvements

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) is inviting Reno-area residents to a public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the North Valleys Community Center, 8085 Silver Lake Road. The session will focus on the Moya Boulevard Capacity and Safety Project, a planned series of improvements along the corridor between Red Rock Road and Echo Avenue.

Project overview

At 5:30 p.m., RTC staff will present an overview of the project, outlining design concepts intended to address safety concerns and accommodate both current traffic volumes and future travel needs. The corridor serves as a daily route for commuters, school buses, and local businesses, making reliable and safe travel essential for families and workers alike.

Why the upgrades matter

“Moya Boulevard is part of this community’s daily life, and the corridor needs to work safely for the people who use it every day,” said Ashley Hurlbut, RTC project manager. “This meeting gives residents and commuters a chance to see what we’re proposing, ask questions and help us make sure the project addresses the needs of the community.”

The proposed improvements include widening certain sections, adding turn lanes, upgrading signal timing, and enhancing pedestrian crossings. The design also considers potential future transit options, aligning with broader regional goals for sustainable mobility.

How the public can participate

Attendees will be able to review detailed project plans and maps, speak directly with the project team, and submit written or verbal feedback. The RTC encourages anyone who lives, works, or travels on Moya Boulevard to attend, emphasizing that community input will shape the final design.

For those unable to attend in person, the RTC will post a summary of the meeting and a copy of the project materials on its website, rtcwashoe.com, later in the week.

Next steps

Following the public meeting, RTC staff will incorporate community comments into the final design package, which will be reviewed by the Washoe County Board of Commissioners. The board’s decision will determine the timing and funding approach for the project, which is expected to move forward in the next fiscal year.

Residents with questions before the meeting can contact the RTC’s public outreach office at (775) 555‑1234 or email [email protected].
