Washington State Triumphs Over Oregon State in Eugene Regional

The Washington State University baseball team achieved a significant victory by defeating Oregon State 3-2 in the Eugene regional, advancing to the winner’s bracket. This marks a notable achievement for the Cougars, as it is their first win over a higher-seeded team in a regional since 1990.

Game Highlights

Nick Lewis was the standout performer for WSU, pitching a complete game and allowing only two earned runs on six hits. Despite Oregon State taking an early lead with a second-inning RBI double by Jacob Galloway, the Cougars responded in the fourth inning. A throwing error by Galloway allowed Max Hartman to score, tying the game at 1-1.

Oregon State briefly regained the lead in the fifth inning with an Easton Talt sacrifice fly. However, WSU quickly answered in the sixth inning when Matt Priest hit an RBI single, bringing Gavin Roy home to level the score at 2-2.

The decisive moment came in the eighth inning when Dustin Robinson hit an RBI double, allowing Hartman to score and give the Cougars a 3-2 lead. Lewis then completed his impressive performance with a perfect ninth inning, securing the victory for WSU.

Looking Ahead

Despite striking out 16 times, the Cougars demonstrated resilience by drawing five walks, which proved crucial in maintaining pressure on the basepaths. WSU will now face the winner of the Oregon and Yale matchup in the next round of the Eugene regional, scheduled for tomorrow night at 6 PM.
