Washington state officials, including the governor, attorney general, and lawmakers, have received 7% pay hikes. The raises, awarded by the Washington Citizens Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials, will total around $10,000 over two years for lawmakers.
Salary Increases
The commission, established by voters in 1987, aims to prevent politicians from deciding their own pay. The new salary schedule, approved in March 2025, includes double-digit pay hikes for the offices of the governor, attorney general, and state lawmakers. The governor’s annual salary is now $234,275, roughly $30,000 more than when he took office in January 2025.
Lawmakers will now earn $72,494, a $10,000 increase over the past two years. Leaders of the four caucuses will continue to receive a stipend for added responsibilities. The lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state auditor, and other executives will only receive cost-of-living adjustments.
