Washington Huskies lose RBs Quaid Carr and Jayden Limar to injuries

Washington head coach Jedd Fisch announced Sunday that both of the Huskies’ primary running backs are sidelined for an extended period following injuries sustained during the 24‑10 victory over Washington State. Starting back Quaid Carr suffered a hand injury that will require surgery, while backup Jayden Limar, a transfer from Oregon, injured his elbow after a hard‑fought effort that produced a team‑high 12 carries, 47 yards and a touchdown.

Impact on the rushing corps

Before his injury, Carr had logged five carries for 28 yards in the second quarter. His absence removes a key component of Washington’s ground attack, forcing the coaching staff to reshuffle the depth chart. Fisch confirmed that the team does not expect Carr or Limar back “for a while,” though he stopped short of labeling the injuries season‑ending.

Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. stepped up as the leading rusher, posting 61 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Running back Trey Cooley contributed four carries, and freshman Brian Bonner saw limited action. Fisch indicated that Cooley and Bonner will now shoulder the bulk of the rushing responsibilities while the injured players recover.

What the coaching staff says

“I know they’re not going to be back for a while,” Fisch told reporters Monday, emphasizing the need for the remaining backs to fill the void. He praised the effort of the younger players, noting that the team will continue to emphasize a balanced attack that leverages both the passing game and the emerging rush talent.

Fisch also highlighted the importance of depth in college football, especially in a physically demanding conference. “We have a lot of guys ready to step up,” he added, underscoring the program’s confidence in its recruiting and development pipeline.

Looking ahead

The Huskies will need to adjust their game plan in the coming weeks as they face a schedule that includes several conference matchups. The loss of Carr and Limar could affect the team’s ability to control the clock and sustain drives, but the coaching staff remains optimistic about the contributions from Cooley, Bonner, and other backs waiting in the wings.

Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for updates on the players’ recovery timelines, which will be provided as the medical staff completes evaluations and post‑surgery assessments. In the meantime, Washington hopes to maintain its competitive edge and continue its push for a strong finish to the season.
