Warren Buffett, born on August 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, is a well-known businessman and investor. He is the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Early Life and Education
Buffett’s father, Howard Buffett, was a politician and businessman. His mother, Leila (Stahl) Buffett, was a homemaker. Buffett filed his first tax return at the age of 13 for income from his newspaper routes.
He attended the University of Nebraska, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950. Buffett then went on to earn a Master of Science in Economics from Columbia University in 1951.
Career
Buffett began his career as an investment salesman for his father’s investment firm, Buffett, Falk, & Co. He later worked as a security analyst for Graham-Newman Corp. in New York.
In 1956, Buffett started his own investment firm, Buffett Partnership, Ltd. He began buying stock in Berkshire Hathaway, a textile manufacturer, in 1962 and eventually became the company’s chairman and CEO in 1970.
Throughout his career, Buffett has been involved in various philanthropic efforts, including the creation of The Giving Pledge with Bill Gates in 2010.
