Vice President JD Vance is set to appear on The View, a show where he has been heavily criticized by the hosts in the past. This will be the third time a sitting vice president has been on the program.
Past Criticism
The hosts of The View, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro, have a history of blasting Vice President Vance and his wife. In July 2024, co-host Joy Behar said that Vance’s selection as President Trump’s running mate was ‘good news for the Democrats’ because he is a ‘carbon copy’ of Trump and would not bring in new voters.
Co-host Sunny Hostin suggested that Trump chose Vance because of his stance on certain issues and his willingness to do things that former Vice President Mike Pence would not. Hostin also labeled Vance an ‘election denier’ who has not committed to accepting the results of the election.
Before the vice presidential debate, co-host Ana Navarro said that Gov. Tim Walz should use the debate to humiliate Vance, calling him a ‘coward, duplicitous, hypocritical opportunist’ who remains silent on certain issues. Navarro also brought up Vance’s past criticism of President Trump and his change in stance after becoming Trump’s running mate.
Guest Appearances
A study by the Media Research Center’s NewsBusters found that The View had 341 guests in 2025, with only two of them being conservative and 128 being liberal. The show’s hosts have also criticized Second Lady Usha Vance, with Hostin arguing that her values do not align with those of her husband.
Behar pointed out that Vance has changed his stance on President Trump, going from criticizing him to supporting him. Hostin asked if Second Lady Usha Vance had also changed her stance for the sake of power, with Behar responding that she is ‘addicted to the power and the perks’.
